Tea Pixie writes her way around the world drinking tea, eating scones, walking, riding, and painting. I. Love. Travel. I. Love. Life.

Exceptionally designed and unusual beach jewelry has a special place in my collection. When you place the right piece on your finger or around your neck, instantly you're feeling beach stylish.

I have developed a particular interest in wearable designs that highlight nature's gems. I am particularly attracted to these kinds of jewellery because of how they wear and how they feel on the skin. Here, I am providing you with beautiful jewellery options that will connect you with the earth and oceans so that you can feel the sand between your toes and salt breeze everytime you adorn your body in these gems.

Shimmering Shell

The joy of wearing shell is that it operates as low-wattage bling. If you want to play up the glow of your skin, creamy shell jewelry is a beautiful accent. If you choose to purchase shell that is set in sterling silver or precious metals, you will need to be very careful cleaning your jewelry.

A jeweler’s cloth with rouge, and a clean cloth to polish, will be enough to keep your sterling silver glittery. When using it, avoid rubbing any shell or pearls. I know mixing pearls and metals is challenging for wearers, but I love them so. If you normally clean your silver in a baking soda/hot water bath with a foil lined glass bowl, avoid this method with shells. The baking soda will remove the shell or pearl sheen. And it can never be reclaimed.

I have collected pearls from sellers all over the world and my hunt for the perfect pearl will never cease. I visited an amazing ocean pearl dealer on the Isle of Wight in England, a locale for the most luxe quality pearls I have ever seen. I have talked with pearl dealers at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show, who sell cultured pearls by the bundles. I know I am not alone in my love for these ocean gems.

In my most recent pearl searching adventures I have discovered a new kind of "pearl" - a nacre pearl. The distributor explained to me that these pearls are each a compound of shell. Unlike cultured pearls or fake pearls, nacre pearls will never lose their sheen and are extremely affordable.

Abrasives like baking soda remove the glorious sheen of shell and should not be used for cleaning.

A Pirate On The Beach!

C'mon - you know what I'm talking about. We all dream of riding the ocean's waves in search of buried treasure! If that sentence doesn't bring images of adventure into your mind, I do not know what will.

I am a world explorer and come of that title rightly so. My Granddad was a sailor and he traveled all over the world. My father followed in his footsteps, traveling near and far. I love to travel by boat from coast to coast, exploring beaches along the way.

When you can't actually get on a boat, but you can get to the beach, this pirate-inspired jewelry will tell everyone that you mean business. While Johnny Depp is older than me, his youthful portrayal of Jack Sparrow has captured the imaginations of swooners and swashbucklers. And I think most fans love how he means business as he swings across the screen, hanging on to a frazzled rope with one hand and his sword in the other. This is definitely NOT the experience of my Granddad, but I know how everyone loves a good yarn.

Pop on these little beauties and you'll be expressing your own Jack-Sparrow-essence to the world.

Coloured Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend!

Which colours of diamonds would you prefer to wear to the beach? I have my favourites, but I won't say so that I don't influence you one way or another.

Saving The Ocean's Creatures

It's hard to have the courage to handle an octopus - unless it's made out of silver and encrusted in crystals! I've searched the world over to find amazing ocean-inspired jewelry designs that honour the creatures that live beneath. I have a special place in my heart for the sterling silver sea stars which mimic the amazing hand-crafted silver and gold jewelry of Canada's Andrea Roberts.

I think the more we promote the value of sea life, the safer our seas could become. Many people really do not realize the impact we have on our seas, so wearing something like a sea star around your neck can provide an opportunity to open up the discussion about saving our seas. Many people do not realize the negative impact of microscopic plastic in our oceans that are there as a result of the use of microfiber cloths. Those microfibers are being ingested by the fish we eat. Not such a happy thought, but worth talking about.

I love to wear beach-inspired jewelry, along with dreaming of the glitter of a beautiful Emerald in the middle of winter. I really love jewelry - so much so, I studied jewelry design. Even though I make many different styles of jewelry, I love receiving beautiful, heartfelt pieces that reflect not only my style, but the love and intention of the people who buy it for me. I will always hold dear items that Dad bought for me when I was young.

What kinds of gems and jewelry do you dream of owning? Do you buy it for yourself or do people like to buy it for you? Tell us all about your day dreams and share your inner desires for that perfect piece of metal and glittering gems.

And if that is not your "cup of tea" can you contribute to the discussion about our ocean environments and how to save our under-the-sea creatures, like Sponge Bob Square Pants? All informed discussions are invited.
